Around the Minors – April 16, 2012

Due to some technical difficulties I was not able to post each game separately last night like I usually do.  Instead here is a recap of last nights events.

Daytona – 3
Dunedin – 6

Matt Szczur finally broke out of his season long slump going 4-for-5.  Greg Rohan had another big game last night going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, and two RBI’s.  Erik Jokisch started for Daytona and took the loss after giving up four runs in six innings.

Tennessee – 2
Huntsville – 5

For a time last night it looked like the Smokies wouldn’t get a hit at all let alone a run.  They finished with two runs on four hits, waiting all the way until the 8th inning to get a base hit.  Trey McNutt started and took the loss for the Smokes but pitched well.  McNutt went four innings giving up one run on four hits, he walked one and struck out three.  I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Tyler Thornburg’s performance for Huntsville, he was awesome Monday Night.  He went 7 and 1/3rds giving up only one hit, one run, he didn’t walk anyone and struck out 11.

Iowa – 3
Round Rock – 2

Iowa won a nail biter last night thanks to some patience and some shoddy Round Rock defense.  The Express committed four errors on the night.  Brett Jackson had a solid game going 1-for-3 with a double and two walks.  Adrian Cardenas and Tony Campana each had one hit, as Iowa only had five total for the game.  Casey Coleman got the win, but got a lot of help from his bullpen.  Jeff Beliveau and Blake Parker shut the door in the late innings.  Anthony Rizzo got the day off.

Thanks for reading,
– George
