4/26: Around the Cubs Minor League System

Here is your nightly recap for the Cubs minor league system, full recaps/box scores after the jump, enjoy.

Heartbreaker for the Chiefs, as they fall in 11 innings to Lake County.  The Chiefs lost the lead in the bottom of the 9th inning and then lost the game in the bottom of the 11th after a costly error.  Wes Darvill had a solid game at the plate going 2-for-6 with a home run and two RBI’s.  Jeffery Lorick, who has been lights out, was finally touched up for a run in the ninth that extended the game into extra innings.

Daytona came back and forced extra’s by tying Clearwater in the top of the 9th, only to fall in the bottom of the 10th on a walk-off homer.  It was a sloppy game all around as the two teams combined to commit 7 errors.  Austin Kirk was great on the mound again, only allowing one earned run over 6 innings of work.  Matt Szczur was an on base machine again tonight, but also had the big hit of the night, a game tying triple in the ninth inning.

The Smokies just can’t generate any offense against the Generals, they were only able to put up two runs on five hits, which is a run better than last night.  Nicholas Struck struggled early, and the early runs were enough for the Generals to beat the Smokies for the second straight night.  Struck gave up seven runs, but once again the defense didn’t do him any favors as only four of the runs were earned.  The lone offense for the Smokies came from Justin Bour who hit his second home run of the season.

The I-Cubs got out to a fast start, scoring five runs in the first two innings and never looked back en route to a 7-1 victory over Nashville.  Frankie De La Cruz was solid on the mound and earned the victory going five innings while only giving up one run.  Adrian Cardenas is red hot, and he continued his torrid pace tonight going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and four RBI’s.  Anthony Rizzo was his usual productive self going 2-for-4 with two RBI’s.
