5/5: Around the Cubs Minor League System

Here is your nightly recap for the Cubs minor league system, enjoy.

No, that’s not a misprint, Quad Cities hung 20 runs and 23 hits on the Peoria Chiefs Saturday Night.  Gerardo Concepcion continued his run of god awful first innings as he gave up seven runs in the first, however only two were earned but he was still done after one inning of work.  Zeke DeVoss, Taiwan Easterling, and Ryan Cuneo all had two hits in the losing effort.  Cuneo was also the pitching MVP of the evening going one scoreless inning.

The D-Cubs finally took some frustration out with the bats.  Daytona pounded out 20 hits and 11 runs to down Jupiter 11-1.  Great days all around at the plate, Matt Szczur went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs.  Arismendy Alcanatara went 4-for-5 with a triple, and RBI, and a run.  Nelson Perez went 5-for-5 with a home run and two RBI’s, while Elieser Bonne also had four hits on the night including a triple.  Frank Del Valle got the win as he was stellar over 6 innings, he improves to 2-0 on the season.

The Smokies beat Montgomery in a wild error filled game 8-7.  The Smokies committed 4 errors on the night, but were able to survive behind 8 hits and 8 runs.  Jame Adducci was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two walks and two runs scored.  Rebel Ridling also had two hits, and he added an RBI for good measure.  Justin Bour may have only had one hit on the night, but he drove in three runs.  Dae-Eun Rhee had a quality start and earned the victory to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Randy Wells was pitching in a new location but had much of the same results as he did in the big leagues on Saturday Night.  Wells walked two guys over 5 and 1/3rds of an inning, while allowing three runs on seven hits to take the loss.  The I-Cubs couldn’t get much going at the plate as they only managed three runs on six hits in the 7-3 defeat.  Dave Sappelt was 1-for-4 with a run scored, while Anthony Rizzo went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
