It’s June and the baseball season is in full swing but the Boise Hawks are just about to get started. The Hawks are the Cubs minor league affiliate at the Single A – short season level. Or the level right below the Peoria Chiefs. The roster is made up mostly of the players that were playing at extended spring training that did not make the Peoria or Daytona teams out of Spring training. Usually that’s not because of performance, but because of youth, and there is plenty of that in Boise. That’s what makes this team so exciting, young, talented ball players. Mike Safford, the Hawks radio play by play voice does a wonderful job of updating all of us on everything Boise, please follow his blog, it’s a great resource! Listen to all the Boise Hawks games at Milb.tv for free, and here at 93.1 KTIK.
Game one is tonight! The Boise Hawks travel to Oregon to take on the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. Jose Arias get’s the start, here is a snippet from Mike Safford’s blog about Arias, Marco Hernandez, and Shawon Dunston Jr from the mouth of Boise Hawks pitching coach David Rosario.
Tomorrow’s starter, Jose Arias (pictured right), has the potential to be something special. The big righty sits 92-96 with his fastball, but Rosario feels that he will be able to hit 97 or 98 by the end of the summer. He is comparitive to Jose Rosario, who had an outstanding second half of the season last year in Boise. He mentioned that all five starters have the potential to be very good and is excited for the youthful line-up – Marco Hernandez will someday be a Big Leaguer, and Shawon Dunston Jr. played really, really, hard – just like his father did.
