May 30, 2013 – White Sox @ Cubs; Lineups

Would this be a sweep?  A three game sweep, a two game sweep?  Who cares, just beat the Sox again.  The Cubs look for their fourth straight victory and third straight over the Sox this afternoon as Travis Wood takes on Jake Peavy.  Can’t stand Peavy, would really enjoy six runs in the first.   There is a chance for scattered storms again today, but it looks like tonight and tomorrow should see the bulk of it so this one should get in uninterrupted.  Here are the lineups.

Navarro leads the way as Cubs throttle White Sox, again

Cubs 5-29 line

Full Box Score

New ballpark, same result, and I like it.  Dioner Navarro just had himself a career day as he launched three home runs, and drove in six to lead the Cubs past the White Sox 9-3.  Apparently the best medicine for an anemic offense is a dose of White Sox pitching as the Cubs have pounded out twenty hits and scored sixteen runs over the last two games.  Navarro’s offensive heroics were more than enough for Scott Feldman to earn his fifth win of the season.  Feldman worked a solid six innings giving up two runs on six hits while striking out seven.

Terrible News: Fujikawa needs Tommy John surgery

Something was odd this morning as the Cubs were planning on giving an update on Kyuji Fujikawa this morning, that’s usually a bad sign, when a team has to give a public update.  The news wasn’t good as Jed Hoyer announced that Fujikawa would need Tommy John surgery which would end his season.  Really crappy news if you ask me as Fujikawa has never been able to settle in this season with multiple setbacks.  I could see the reason why the Cubs shelled out the money for Fujikawa as he has solid stuff on the mound, and there really was no prior history of injuries, so I think we can just chalk this up to some bad luck at this point.  Or Cubs luck, if you will.

Cubs/White Sox postponed, Mother Nature hates the Cubs

The Cubs got to Chris Sale early as Welington Castillo hit a two-run bomb, and Edwin Jackson was pitching like someone getting paid as much as him should.  Well, that was way too good to be true as the skies opened up and the game was just postponed.  There is no make up date announced as of yet as the Sox travel way across the County to Wrigley tomorrow.  Up yours, Mother Nature.

May 28, 2013 – Cubs @ White Sox; Lineups!

Tough matchup for the Cubs tonight as they go for their third straight win, and second straight over the Sox.  The Cubs will send Edwin Jackson to the mound as he looks to improve upon his 1-7 record, the Sox will counter with their ace, Chris Sale.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM CST on the South Side, there is a chance for storms later today, let’s hope the only thunder heard is from the Cubs bats.  Here is how both teams will line up, go Cubs!

Cubs Slaughter White Sox behind dominant Samardzija

Cubs 5-27 line

Full Box Score

It doesn’t get much better than that, the Cubs absolutely handing the Sox their lunch tonight as Jeff Samardzija had the Sox looking like a triple A team.  Samardzija was brilliant, as he went the distance for the complete game shut out and victory.  That last sentence doesn’t really tell the story of how dominant Samardzija was, so I’ll add one more.  Shark not only went the distance, he gave up only two hits, while walking two and striking out eight.  For a pitcher that has lost 1-0 already twice this year the Cubs offensive outburst must have been a welcomed site.  The top of the order led the charge in this one, the one through four hitters were a combined 9-for-18 with a double, a triple, a home run, and six RBI’s.  Beating the Sox should count for two wins, you know, because it feels so good.
