Smokies 5-25 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Nothing went right for the Smokies in this one as they could only manage three hits all night, and two runs in a 7-2 loss.  Arismendy Alcantara was one of the few Smokies to come through last night, he was 1-for-4 with his seventh home run of the season, two RBI’s, and a run scored.  Rubi Silva, and Tim Torres were the only other Smokies to record hits in this one, both singles; they each had a stolen base as well.

On The MoundAlberto Cabrera rarely gets beat up, last night was one of those rare times that he did.  Cabrera worked six innings giving up five runs, four earned, on six hits while walking three and striking out seven.  A.J. Morris wasn’t much better out of the pen going 1.1 innings giving up two runs on three hits while walking three.  Brian Schlitter doesn’t allow runs, he just doesn’t, he worked 1.2 scoreless innings giving up one hit while walking one and striking out one.

Daytona 5-25 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Daytona only needed one inning to get the victory in this one; they scored five times in the second inning and held on for dear life in a 5-4 victory of the Flying Tigers, what a name, eh?  Jorge Soler was 1-for-4 with his eleventh double of the season, and a run scored in the victory.  Daytona made their hits count as they could only manage six all game, and the two guys at the bottom of the order came up huge.  Taiwan Easterling (8 hitter) was 1-for-3 with two RBI’s and a run scored, while Tim Saunders (9 hitter) was 2-for-3 with his first home run of the season, three RBI’s, and a run scored.

On The Mound – Nice to have Kyler Burke back on the mound, he was brilliant in this one to earn his first victory of the season.  Burke went five scoreless innings giving up one hit while walking two and striking out two, he lowered his ERA to 0.90 on the season.  Eduardo Figueroa found some trouble, but kept the damage limited going 1.1 innings giving up one run on three hits while walking one.  Hunter Cervenka was touched up, gasp!  That never happens!  Cervenka worked 1.2 innings giving up three runs on two hits while walking two and striking out three.  Luis Liria came on to save the day, and the game going one scoreless inning giving up one hit while walking one and striking out one to earn his second save of the season.

Kane County 5-25 line game 1

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Solid comeback win for Kane County in game one as they scored twice in the fifth to tie the game, then walked off in the seventh for the win.  Oh hey look, Albert Almora shows up in the recap, what else is new?  Almora was 3-for-4 with two doubles; he now has five doubles in four games for the Cougars, he added two RBI’s, two runs scored, and an outfield assist in the victory.  Dan Vogelbach was 2-for-3 with his ninth double of the season, and a walk.  Gioskar Amaya was 2-for-3 with two singles; he’s now hitting .263 on the season, that average is on the rise.

Kane County 5-25 line game 2

Full Box Score

At The Plate – The runs came early and often in game two as the Snapper and Cougars totaled nine runs in the first three innings; luckily the Cougars were on the right side of the score, leading 5-4.  The Cougar pitching settled down after that, and the offense tacked on two runs in the fifth en route to a 7-4 victory.  Oliver Zapata getting a chance to lead off was solid, he was 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, two RBI’s, and a run scored.  Albert Almora only had one hit in game two so there really isn’t much to say about him in game two….  Dan Vogelbach was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored in the victory, he’s now hitting .291 on the season.  Rock Shoulders was tired of slumping, so he busted out in game two, he was 2-for-3 with two home runs (11,12), three RBI’s, and two runs scored.  Bijan Rademacher was 2-for-2 with a walk, a double, and a run scored, he’s now hitting .323 on the season.

On The MoundBrian Smith was roughed up a bit in this one, and earned a no decision thanks to his red hot offense.  Smith worked four innings giving up four runs on three hits while walking two and striking out two.  Ian Dickson was awesome out of the pen and was rewarded with his second win of the season.  Dickson worked three scoreless innings giving up on hit whiles walking one and striking out four.

Daytona 5-22 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – The D-Cubs jumped all over Jupiter early, taking a 6-1 lead in the third en route to an 8-4 victory, their second straight.  Daytona pounded out twelve hits in the win, and were 4-for-12 with runners in scoring position.  John Andreoli was outstanding going 3-for-5 with two runs scored; he surprisingly didn’t steal a base in this one.  Javier Baez was 1-for-5 with his twelfth double of the season, an RBI, and two runs scored, and he committed his twentieth error of the 2013.  Jorge Soler was 1-for-3 with two walks, and two RBI’s, he’s now hitting .299 on the season after slumping for a few weeks.  Dustin Geiger loves to drive in runs, he was 2-for-5 with a double, and two RBI’s, that gives him 39 on the season.  Chadd Krist had a solid game going 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, and two runs scored in the win.

Kane County 5-22 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – The Cougars fell behind 5-0 by the second inning and were really never in it as they wound up losing 9-2 to the Chiefs.  The Cougars had the same amount of hits as the Chiefs did (10), but scored seven less runs as they were 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.  The big news of the night was the return of Albert Almora who was making his 2013 debut after recovering for surgery to remove a broken hamate bone.  Almora didn’t disappoint as he was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored, too bad he wasn’t up with guys on base tonight.  Eight of the nine starters had hits for the Cougars in this one; it really was a challenge to score only two runs.  The Cougars had three extra base hits in the loss, the Almora double, a Dan Vogelbach double, and a Gioskar Amaya triple.

On The MoundMichael Heesch was very good in the early going this year, but has struggled recently, that includes tonight.  Heesch suffered his fourth loss of the season as he worked 6.2 innings giving up five runs, four earned, on six hits while walking one and striking out three.  Eddie Orozco wasn’t much better out of the pen as he could only retire one hitter giving up two runs on three hits while striking out one.  Brian Smith was also touched up as he worked one inning giving up two runs, one earned, on one hit while walking two and striking out two.

Daytona 5-16 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate –  The Daytona bats finally woke up, unfortunately that wasn’t enough to win tonight as they drop another disappointing one to Charlotte.  Daytona scored seven times but left a lot out there as they were only 3-for-15 with runners in scoring position.  Dustin Geiger is putting together a solid season and had another good night going 3-for-5 with his fourth home run of the season, a double, an RBI, and two runs scored, he is now hitting .298 on the season.  Ben Carhart was 1-for-4 with a walk, and two runs scored in the loss.  Huge night for Chadd Krist, he went 3-for-3 with a walk, two doubles, and five RBI’s, not bad for his second game with Daytona.

On The Mound – Probably the worst outing you will ever see P.J. Francescon have, he had nothing.  Francescon went five innings giving up ten runs, eight earned, on nine hits while walking five and striking out three, his record fell to 3-3 on the season.  Jeffrey Lorick was decent out of the pen going 1.2 innings giving up one run, unearned, on one hit while walking one and striking out one.  David Cales was okay out of the pen going 1.1 innings giving up one run on one hit while walking one and striking out one.  Hunter Cervenka worked a scoreless inning giving up one hit, he has a sparkling 1.62 ERA on the season.

Kane County 5-16 line game 2

Full Box Score

At The Plate – The Chiefs got payback in game two as they routed the Cougars 8-2, the Cougars could only manage three hits in this one.  What’s worse is they committed six errors in seven innings, that usually doesn’t end well.  Jeimer Candelario was one of the few Cougars who had a strong game two at the plate, he was 2-for-3 with two doubles, he also committed three errors.  Marco Hernandez proved to be the only offense for the Cougars going 1-for-3 with his first home run of the season, two RBI’s, a run scored, and you guessed it, an error.

On The Mound – As you could imagine the Cougars pitching didn’t get a lot of help from their defense.  Michael Heesch got the start and took the loss, he worked three innings giving up six runs, two earned, on four hits while walking two.  Steve Perakslis was solid out of the pen working three scoreless innings giving up three hits while striking out two.  Bijan Rademacher, the Cougars starting right fielder, worked one inning giving up two runs, unearned, on two hits while walking one.
