The Cubs flashed some power last night to go along with yet another solid performance from one of their starters. This time it was Jon Lester benefiting from three Cubs dingers as he breezed through the Angels lineup en route to picking up his first win of the season. Dexter Fowler, Matt Szczur, and Anthony Rizzo all found the seats as the Cubs torched the Angels 6-1 to move their record to 2-0 for the first time since 1995.
Odds are that Matt Szczur will be summoned back to the major league team after Chris Denorfia pulled up lame last night. Szczur was pulled after the eighth inning, but before that he crushed his second dinger of the year, got all of it.
Oh, I see you Matt Szczur, that was a big boy homer right there. Â Matt Szczur is making a lot of noise in camp, today might have been the exclamation point as he destroyed a Derek Holland 1-1 offering into the parking lot. Â This kid has a place on the opening night roster in my opinion.
I mentioned it before the game today, Matt Szczur is doing everything right so far this spring, and Joe Maddon has to be taking notice. Szczur ripped his third homer of the spring this afternoon in the Cubs’ 10-5 victory over the Brewers, enjoy the video.
