Daytona is struggling, currently sitting in lst place in the FSL North, full stats after the jump.
Daytona couldn’t find their bats on Sunday, as they only scored one run on 8 hits in twelve innings in a 2-1 loss to Dunedin. Austin Kirk was outstanding on the hill for the D-Cubs going seven innings only allowing one run on four hits while walking one and striking out one. Rubi Silva and John Andreoli each had two hits on the day, but the D-Cubs just couldn’t string anything together.
For the second straight night the D-Cubs blitzed Tampa. The D-Cubs had five different guys get two hits, and Eduardo Figueroa went a solid 5 innings for the victory. Matt Szczur continues to struggle at the top of the Daytona lineup, it’s early, and he is young, there will be some growing pains. Full boxscore after the jump.
Daytona looked like they were on their way to a victory then the 8th inning happened, Tampa tallied two runs in the bottom half leading to a 5-4 loss for Daytona. Richard Jones had two hits, and Chad Noble had two RBI’s in the loss. Hayden Simpson pitched well enough for the win but the D-Cubs bullpen was not able to hang on.
Austin Kirk had a solid performance go to waste as the Daytona Cubs committed four errors which led to a big four run 8th inning for Dunedin which proved to be the difference. Matt Szczur chipped in with two hits, as did Ronald Torreyes, Nelson Perez, and Elieser Bonne.
Daytona made a game of it Monday Night after falling behind 6-0 early, only to come up short and fall to Dunedin 8-7. Matt Szczur had a decent game going 1 for 3 with a walk, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Greg Rohan had two hits including a 3-run homer which was part of a 4 RBI night. Zach Cates took the loss for Daytona giving up 6 runs in one plus inning which included four walks.
Tony Zych tossed two solid innings to close out the game, as Daytona beat Brevard County 6-2. Matt Szczur was 0-3 with a walk and run on the evening.
