22 hits and 10 runs was not enough for Iowa Sunday Night as they fell to the Round Rock Express 11-10 in 13 innings. Every I-Cubs starter had at least one hit, all but two of them had a run scored as well. Tony Campan had a big day goinf 3-for-4 with a solo home run. Adrian Cardenas had four hits, and Alfredo Amezaga had five hits. Anthony Rizzo continued hit torrid start going 3-for-7 with a run scored. Randy Wells was the opposite of good, he only lasted 2 and 1/3rd innings giving up 8 runs on 8 hits, while walking three and striking out 3. Full box score after the jump.

That finish was sketchy to say the least. The game was all but over heading into the bottom of the ninth but Iowa pitchers could not find the plate and the result was Round Rock almost pulling off the upset. It was a headliner night for the Cubs big prospects as Castillo, Jackson, and Rizzo had solid efforts. Brett Jackson was back in the lineup after a day off yesterday and delivered with a solo home run late in the game which turned out to be an important run. Welington Castillo continued his hot start going 3-for-4 with a home run, and Rizzo went 3-for-4 with two home runs on the night. That brings Rizzo HR total to five in just nine games so far. Jay Jackson had a solid outing going 5 innings and only allowing two runs on five hits. Full box score after the jump.

Randy Wells went six innings, but struggled giving up four runs on six hits, while striking out five and not walking anyone.

Casey Coleman got knocked around early in Iowa’s loss Friday night. Coleman was around the plate all night, just probably around it a little too much. He gave up four runs on five hits over five innings, he didn’t walk anyone and struck out five. The Iowa bullpen came in and did an adequate job keeping Round Rock scoreless over the next four innings. Ryan Rowland-Smith, and Jeff Beliveau each tossed a scoreless inning while Esmailin Caridad turned in two scoreless innings. Rizzo and Jackson were the stars again at the plate, Jackson chipped in with a triple, and Rizzo had two more hits in the 4-3 loss.
