The Cubs go for their second straight four game series win today at 1:20 PM CST. Travis Wood gets the ball for the Cubs and he will be opposed by Eric Stults for the Padres, the weather has cooled considerably, but it’s not awful out there today. There is a threat of rain later this afternoon, but I think they should get this one in, here are the lineups.

Solid match up today as Jeff Samardzija takes on Mat Latos in the rubber game of the series. It’s raining in Cincinnati at the moment and the game will not start as scheduled (11:35 AM), instead everyone involved will meet to see if they should postpone the game or just wait it out around 11:15 AM. Here are the lineups for today should we get underway. (UPDATE) Game scheduled to start at 1 PM CST now, could change, but that’s the plan.

We are experiencing historic rainfall around the Chicagoland area over the past two days, but the tarp is off the field at the moment, and the Cubs think they might have a small window to get this game in. If they do it will be Alexi Ogando against Carlos Villanueva. The Rangers chose to skip Justin Grimm and go to Ogando while the Cubs are sticking with Villanueva instead of going with scheduled starter Jeff Samardzija. As optimistic as the Cubs are that they will play today, I don’t think they will, that field has seen a ton of water already and there is more on the way, maybe we’ll get lucky, I just want to see proof the sun still exists.
It’s raining where I am, and has been for quite some time, but it’s apparently dry at Wrigley as they are underway for the final time this season. Travis Wood gets the ball for the Cubs as they try to end 2012 on a high note, not sure really how high a note it will be, but a win would be nice. The only regular in the Cubs lineup today is Starlin Castro, that makes it 162 for 162 this year, impressive.
Looks at this “lineup” – I predict 10 runs for the Cubs today, because that’s how it always works.
1. Campana – LF
2. Cardenas – 2B
3. Castro – SS
4. LaHair – 1B
5. Sappelt – RF
6. Vitters – 3B
7. Jackson – CF
8. Recker – C
9. Wood – P
The tarp is on the field, and the Cubs game will not start on time. We’ll keep you posted if and when a new start time is announced..
[UPDATE] Looked like the game was going to start around 8:00 PM CST, but another wave of rain came through, still expecting baseball tonight.
[UPDATE #2] It’s now 10:00 PM CST, and we are still in a delay, and nothing has been called yet, still waiting. Almost three hours and counting, at least 30 minutes of field prep after tarp is off, game might not start till 10:30 PM CST at the earliest.
[UPDATE #3] First pitch, 10:40 PM CST, not kidding.
The only reason I think the Cubs and Rockies will play today is that the Rockies do not come back to Wrigley this year. That said, things don’t look too promising as rain is moving into the area and it is heavy and slow-moving. We will keep you posted on any delay’s, if they do start here is how the Cubs will line up as they look to take the series from the Rockies.
DeJesus – RF
Valbuena – 3B
Rizzo – 1B
Soriano – LF
Castro – SS
Clevenger – C
Jackson – CF
Barney – 2B
Volstad – P
Thanks for reading, go Cubs!
The Cubs plans for a sweep of the Cardinals might have to wait a little longer. The game will not start at 1:20 PM Central as it is currently raining. They expect the rain to move out of the area by about 1:20 PM CST, and the first pitch should follow shortly thereafter, we will have baseball today.
